Reception Playlist : The Foundry Wedding : Long Island City 2011
The Foundry has become one of my new favorite spaces to play in NYC. One of the building’s incarnations around the turn of the 20th Century was as The Albra Metal Foundry, hence it’s current name. Beautifully renovated in recent years, it has an unmistakable historical & industrial character to balance it’s polished elegance.
I met with this couple and talked about their love of newer Indie bands, as well as their appreciation of 80s hitmakers & 80s UK Alternative & Britpop. At the same time, though, everyone having fun was a huge priority, so the challenge here was how to reflect the unique character of the couple, fans of bands like Grizzly Bear, Beach House, & Blur… in a way that involved and excited everyone. I was happy to find that the entire party was very receptive to what I had to offer… to the extent that after the (planned) last song from Simple Minds faded out… everyone began chanting: “One more song! One more song! One more song!” (-& yes, they did get their encore song…)
I usually don’t post very many cocktail hour playlists or dinner playlists on my site, but I have included them here because this particular mix was very forward-thinking in its approach. Reading between the lines of what we spoke about at our initial meeting, I could tell that the couple was very fond of the Shoegaze sound, so I tried in the pre-dancing period to pick romantic songs in that spirit, accented by a few classic standards.

[Encore] a-Ha: “Take On Me” (12″ Remix)
I was the older sister of the groom and I’m pretty sure my music tastes have influenced my brother’s over the years. I’ve been to many events incorporating music for some time and I was so impressed with the way DJ Ceremony could read an audience and get everyone- regardless of age, race, or gender on that dance floor all night! Kudos and thank you!
Thanks, Melissa! I’m happy that you had a good time!
I was the bride in all of this fabulousness, and I cannot tell you all how amazing DJ Ceremony was. He had everyone dancing- young and old alike- while staying true to our music tastes and requests. He truly made our wedding- all of the moments I remember most I remember because of the music. Thank you thank you thank you!
