“OSCILLATE WILDLY”—The NYC Smiths & Morrissey Fan Party: Fri. 12/30
Chapter 56: The End of 2016 Bash
Friday, December 30, 2016.
Well, it’s been yet another intereting year in Morrisseyland! The year got off to a peculiar start with Morrissey engaging in a public dispute with fashion label Supreme, over the unwanted use of a Morrissey photo for one of ther advertising campaigns, and on the grounds of Supreme’s sponsorship by White Castle. Summer 2016 brought much more positive news, with Morrissey announcing a new series of tour dates including Kings Theatre in Brooklyn, NY, which Morrissey later declared his second-favorite gig of the entire tour! The end of 2016 has been fascinating as well, with the release of Johnny Marr’s long awaited autobiography “Set The Boy Free,” and the announcement of a forthcoming SMITHS 7″ release of previously unreleased versions of “The Boy With The Thorn In His Side” and “Rubber Ring.” December brought some sad news for many fans however, as guitarist Gustavo Manzur collapsed at a gig in Boulder (and was subsequently hospitalized) causing the remainder of the 2016 tour dates to be cancelled.
Despite the highs and lows, 2017 should be no less interesting, and I for one look very much forward to what’s in store! Mark your calendars for the “Oscillate WIldly” end of year bash as we dance our legs down to the knees for one last time in 2016! For those new to the party, “Oscillate WIldly” is an event established in 2010 that pays homage to the brilliant musical legacy of Manchester legends The Smiths, as well as the extensive solo career of Morrissey. To round out the sound, you can also dance to the best in Classic ’90s Britpop, ’80s Alternative, British UK Postpunk, as well as a dash of Punk & Glam Rock. Bring your dancing shoes, it’s always a ecstatic night! ☆ You can skip the cover by showing our doorperson your Smiths/Morrissey/Marr tattoo, or Smiths/Morrissey/Marr t-shirt.
Long-time followers of “Oscillate WIldly” know that the party took a bit of a hiatus beginning in August following the closing of its previous regular venue: Jeromes. After searching for the most appropriate fit, we’ll be bringing our beloved gathering to the downstairs space at LEFTFIELD in the heart of the Lower East Side. Let’s inaugurate Leftfield “with incredible style” on December 30th! Heaven knows we’ll soon be dust.
[* Update] We received a very generous donation of a brand new, autographed copy of Johnny Marr’s new autobiography “Set The Boy Free,” and we’ll be raffling it at 1am. Every attendee of the party gets a free raffle ticket! (Additional tickets avail. for $1)
